Gopalganj, January 10. A young man’s body was discovered under suspicious circumstances in a field in the Kateya police station area of Gopalganj district, Bihar, on Saturday. Reports indicate that the victim was strangled by assailants before being dumped in the field, leading to significant unrest in the locality.
The deceased has been identified as Anil Kushwaha, aged 20. According to sources, Anil had been in a romantic relationship with a girl from the village for the past three years.
Family members of the victim claim that the alleged girlfriend called Anil on Friday night, luring him to a location where he was subsequently murdered. They allege that the girl had been pressuring Anil for marriage, having visited his home multiple times to discuss the possibility of a wedding.
They believe that this pressure and the ensuing dispute led to Anil being called away from home and killed, with his body later discarded in the field. The discovery of the body has escalated tensions within the village.
Upon receiving news of the incident, police arrived at the scene to initiate an investigation. In response to the rising anger among villagers, additional police forces from nearby stations were deployed to the area.
Anand Mohan Gupta, the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Hathua, confirmed that the situation in the village remains peaceful. He mentioned that several individuals have been taken into custody for questioning. Villagers attempted to attack the suspect’s residence, but police intervened to control the crowd.
Authorities stated that a thorough investigation is underway, examining every aspect of the case. The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination, and the actual cause of death will be determined following the report. Meanwhile, police are maintaining constant surveillance to ensure peace in the village.
