New Delhi, January 13. A special CBI court in New Delhi has convicted four individuals, including a private company and its director, in connection with the coal block allocation scam. Following the verdict delivered on Monday, a total of 20 people have now been sentenced in this ongoing case, as confirmed by the CBI on Tuesday.
The CBI identified the convicted as SKS Ispat and Power Limited, its director Deepak Gupta, authorized signatory Satya Narayan Dwivedi, and Amrit Singh. Deepak Gupta has been sentenced to three years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of ₹10 lakh.
Additionally, Satya Narayan Dwivedi received a sentence of two years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of ₹20,000, while Amrit Singh has been sentenced to one year in prison with a penalty of ₹10,000. The court has also imposed a fine of ₹50 lakh on the private company.
The CBI initiated the case on September 4, 2014, alleging that the accused, including the company and its director, had made false and misleading claims regarding financial net worth, production capacity, land ownership, and environmental clearances to obtain the allocation of the Rawanwara North coal block.
After an extensive investigation, the CBI filed a chargesheet against Deepak Gupta, Satya Narayan Dwivedi, and Amrit Singh on September 31, 2016. The court subsequently found the accused guilty and handed down the appropriate sentences.
