Rashid Alvi Criticises Congress Over Naseemuddin Siddiqui Resignation

New Delhi: Ahead of the Uttar Pradesh 2027 assembly elections, the Congress party is working to strengthen its organisation in the state. However, on Saturday, a significant setback occurred when Naseemuddin Siddiqui resigned from the Congress. This resignation has intensified the political atmosphere in the state, with reactions coming from both BJP and Congress leaders.

Senior Congress leader Rashid Alvi spoke on the resignation of Siddiqui, stating that meeting Rahul Gandhi is not easy. In an interview in New Delhi, Alvi expressed concern over the resignation, highlighting that while the BJP accuses Congress of Muslim appeasement, the party itself is increasingly ignoring Muslim leadership.

Alvi pointed out that in Bihar, Shakil left the party; in Uttar Pradesh, Naseemuddin Siddiqui resigned; and in Karnataka, Roshan Beg departed. He emphasised that Congress needs to seriously consider that Indian Muslims have historically supported the party, yet Muslim leaders are being neglected within it.

Referring to Operation Sindoor, Rashid Alvi questioned its purpose, asking whether the Indian government intended it merely to demolish certain buildings. He noted that terrorists who spread terror, such as Hafiz Saeed, Salahuddin, and Dawood Ibrahim, are still alive and active in Pakistan.

Naseemuddin Siddiqui had sent his resignation to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, citing personal reasons for leaving the party. In his resignation letter, Siddiqui stated that he was relinquishing his primary membership and all organisational responsibilities due to “unavoidable reasons.” He clarified that he had no personal grievances against any Congress office-bearer but felt that the objectives for which he had joined the party were not being fulfilled.
