Lucknow: On the occasion of the 77th Republic Day, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) national president and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati extended her heartfelt greetings to the people of India. She also renewed her demand for conferring the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian award, on the party’s founder Kanshiram.
Mayawati took to the social media platform X to convey her wishes, stating, “Heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to all countrymen and Indian citizens living across the world and their families on the 77th Republic Day.”
She emphasized the importance of this day, saying that while it is a time to take pride in the nation’s exemplary Constitution, it is equally critical to honestly assess whether the promises and claims made by central and state governments have translated into genuine progress. According to her, an objective evaluation is needed to determine if political, social, and economic democracy has improved people’s living standards in accordance with the Constitution’s welfare goals. Only through such progress can the country hope to overcome its pressing challenges.
Mayawati also congratulated all those honoured with prestigious awards such as Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, Padma Shri, and the highest gallantry awards for their outstanding service in various fields, extending her best wishes to the awardees and their families.
Highlighting the legacy of Kanshiram, she said that he dedicated his life to empowering millions of poor, oppressed, and neglected sections of the Bahujan society by instilling self-respect and dignity. She reiterated that it would be appropriate and timely to honour Kanshiram with the Bharat Ratna without further delay, reflecting the desire of his millions of followers nationwide—a demand the BSP has consistently made.
