Buxar, Bihar: A grocery shop owner was shot and seriously injured by unidentified assailants in Ramdas Rai’s Dera police station area of Simri block on Tuesday night around 9 PM. The incident took place in Rajapur Benilal Ke Dera village.
The victim has been identified as 24-year-old Rakesh Kumar Gupta. According to locals, Rakesh was closing his shop and preparing to return home when suddenly the attackers arrived and shot him near his left ear before fleeing the scene.
Hearing the gunshot, nearby villagers rushed to the spot and immediately took the bloodied Rakesh to Simri Hospital. After initial treatment, doctors referred him to the Sadar Hospital due to his critical condition. As his health remained unstable there, he was further sent to a higher medical centre. Currently, Rakesh is receiving treatment at the Trauma Centre in Varanasi, accompanied by his family.
Dr. Satish Chandra Mishra of Simri Hospital confirmed, “The bullet hit near Rakesh’s left ear. After stabilising his condition with first aid, we referred him to a specialised medical centre.”
The incident has created fear among local residents. Eyewitness Bablu Yadav said, “Rakesh was closing his shop and heading home when he was shot near his ear. No one feels safe in Bihar anymore.”
Another witness, Ganesh Prasad, also confirmed the occurrence, stating, “It happened on Tuesday night as Rakesh was leaving his shop. He was shot near his ear.”
Following the shooting, police from Ramdas Rai’s Dera police station arrived at the scene and have started an investigation. Officers are questioning locals and conducting raids to trace the assailants, who remain unidentified so far.
Villagers have called for the swift arrest of the culprits and an increase in police patrolling to ensure safety in the area. Police officials have assured that every aspect of the case is being thoroughly examined and the perpetrators will be caught soon.
