Bengaluru Teacher Suspended for Beating Class 4 Student Over Homework

Bengaluru’s Veena School in Nandini Layout is under scrutiny after a shocking incident involving a class 4 student. A 10-year-old boy was reportedly beaten by his class teacher for not completing his homework. The child sustained multiple injuries on his hands, legs, and fingers. Additionally, the teacher allegedly threatened him not to disclose the incident to anyone at home.

The incident took place on January 10 but came to light only when the boy’s mother noticed a sudden change in his behaviour. Upon questioning, the child tearfully revealed what had happened. The mother immediately approached the school to report the matter. However, she was subjected to verbal abuse and mistreatment by the school staff. Following this, she filed a complaint at the Nandini Layout police station.

The police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against the teacher, Angelina, and the school management under Indian Penal Code sections 115 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 351 (criminal intimidation), along with relevant provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act. On learning about the case, the school administration suspended the accused teacher forthwith. Authorities have begun an investigation and conducted a medical examination to document the child’s injuries.

The mother has strongly condemned the use of corporal punishment in schools and demanded strict regulations to ensure children’s safety. She urged that those responsible be dealt with sternly to prevent such incidents in future.

This case highlights growing concerns about physical punishment in Bengaluru schools, which is legally prohibited. Experts warn that such acts can cause deep psychological trauma and fear in children.

Police have assured that a thorough investigation will be conducted and a strong charge sheet will be filed against the accused. The boy’s mother appealed to other parents to remain vigilant about their children’s well-being and to report any form of abuse or intimidation immediately. She emphasised the need for schools to maintain a safe and respectful environment for all students.

The investigation is ongoing, with court proceedings expected soon.
