Ahmedabad, March 7: In a significant achievement, the police in Anand district of Gujarat have secured a 100% conviction rate in all seven cases registered under the POCSO Act between March and December 2024. Recently, two additional verdicts were announced, with both accused receiving life sentences.
Out of the seven convicted individuals, six have been sentenced to life imprisonment, while one received a 20-year sentence. All cases involved sexual offenses against minors.
Officials reported that charge sheets were filed within a maximum of 45 days from the registration of the FIRs, leading to court decisions in most cases within eight to nine months.
The investigation was conducted under the supervision of Anand’s Superintendent of Police, G.G. Jasani, with Circle Inspector D.R. Chaudhary, who is currently stationed at the Borsad police station, leading the inquiry.
The police adopted a “top-to-bottom” approach, utilizing both traditional investigative methods and technical tools. Witness statements and documentation were recorded through video using an e-evidence application to ensure the integrity of the evidence during judicial proceedings.
Additionally, scientific and medical evidence collected with the assistance of crime scene managers and forensic science labs played a crucial role in securing convictions.
Authorities stated that the swift investigation, timely charge sheets, and use of scientific evidence contributed to the successful prosecution of all seven cases.
Gujarat’s Deputy Chief Minister, Harsh Sanghvi, congratulated Inspector D.R. Chaudhary and his team on this achievement. He emphasized that the Gujarat Police’s promptness and sensitivity have strengthened the trust of the state’s daughters and their families in their safety.
Sanghvi reiterated the state government’s commitment to a ‘zero tolerance’ policy against crimes targeting women and minors, assuring that there would be no leniency in such cases.
