Mumbai, March 14: Uttar Pradesh Cabinet Minister Jayveer Singh addressed several national and political issues on Saturday, including the ongoing political debate surrounding the legacy of Kanshi Ram, the controversy related to NCERT textbooks, the impeachment motion against the Chief Election Commissioner, and the gas crisis amid rising tensions between Iran and Israel.
In an interview with a news agency, Singh stated that the opposition is raising unnecessary political issues while the government and institutions are fulfilling their constitutional obligations.
Commenting on the impeachment motion against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, Singh criticized the opposition, suggesting that it appears they are losing faith in constitutional institutions. He accused the opposition of raising such issues merely to remain in the political spotlight.
Singh noted that some Congress MPs have already been expelled from the Lok Sabha, and a recent no-confidence motion against the Lok Sabha Speaker was also dismissed. He alleged that the opposition continually creates new controversies to stay relevant, including the recent impeachment motion against the Chief Election Commissioner.
Regarding concerns over a potential shortage of gas and petrol due to escalating tensions between Iran and Israel, Singh reassured that there is no shortage in the country. He emphasized that India is among the least affected nations during this period of global uncertainty.
He highlighted India’s diplomatic success, stating that despite special circumstances, India maintains cordial relations with Iran, and several ships carrying energy resources have already reached Indian ports. The minister assured that there will be no shortage of gas or other energy sources under any circumstances.
Singh mentioned that the central government is vigilant and sensitive, continuously monitoring the availability of essential goods. Strict action is being taken against hoarders and black marketers to ensure that the general public does not face any difficulties.
Responding to the ongoing political claims between the Samajwadi Party and Congress regarding the legacy of Kanshi Ram, Singh launched a sharp attack on Congress. He asserted that if Congress had provided justice to the oppressed and marginalized during its rule, the Kanshi Ram movement would not have emerged.
According to him, despite ruling for a long time, Congress failed to grant these communities their rightful rights and respect, resulting in social discontent and giving new direction to the Dalit movement. He stated that organizations like the Bahujan Samaj Party and BAMCEF emerged under Kanshi Ram’s leadership due to this backdrop. Singh demanded that Congress apologize to the nation for this historical failure.
On the issue raised by Priyanka Chaturvedi in the Rajya Sabha regarding the removal of the chapter on “Corruption in the Judiciary” from the NCERT textbook, Singh responded to her labeling of the Supreme Court’s order as “judicial dictatorship.” He clarified that the chapter was removed as per the judiciary’s directive and that all necessary procedures have been completed in this regard. He stated that the affidavit related to this matter has been submitted to the Supreme Court and that the opposition need not express unnecessary concern regarding any ongoing matters between the judiciary and the government. He assured that whatever the final order from the court will be, it will be complied with.
