Mumbai, March 14: The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has officially launched the women’s version of the T20 Mumbai League. This decision comes after the success of three seasons of the men’s league. Rohit Sharma, the face of the league, unveiled the trophy for both the men’s and women’s upcoming editions in Mumbai on Saturday.
Rohit expressed his happiness at the growing standard of Mumbai cricket, noting that it extends beyond just the IPL teams. The T20 Mumbai League has provided numerous young players with opportunities to advance their careers. He highlighted that many players who have previously participated in the T20 Mumbai League have gone on to play for IPL teams and the Indian national team. According to him, this league has become a significant platform for players to prove themselves.
He also mentioned that it is commendable to see the tournament being organized again after the previous season’s remarkable success. Rohit, who was involved in the last season, acknowledged the challenges of organizing the event and credited all members of the MCA for making it a success. This year, the tournament has expanded to include three women’s teams, providing a great opportunity for the advancement of women’s cricket.
Indian female cricketer Sayali Satghare stated, “This is a big platform. I thank MCA for initiating this league for women. I hope more teams will join in the future, giving girls more opportunities. Cricket in Mumbai is like a religion. You can find children playing cricket at any time of the day on the fields. MCA provides a great opportunity.”
However, the Mumbai Indians Association has yet to announce the schedule for this tournament. Last season, the tournament was held in June, right after the IPL, featuring several star players from Mumbai, including Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav.
