CPI Announces Candidates for Kerala Assembly Elections 2026

Thiruvananthapuram, March 16: The Communist Party of India (CPI), the second-largest ally of the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) government, has officially announced its candidates for 25 constituencies in the upcoming Kerala Assembly elections scheduled for April 9, 2026. All four CPI ministers currently in the cabinet will contest again in the elections.

The CPI has fielded E.T. Taison Master against opposition leader V.D. Satheesan in Paravur. Other candidates include advisor Govindan Pallikapilly from Kanhangad, lawyer P. Vasantham from Nadapuram, Ajith Koladi from Tirurangadi, independent candidate Mustafa V.M. from Manjeri, Advocate Shafeer Kizhissery from Eranad, and Muhammad Muhsin from Pattambi.

Additionally, candidates from various constituencies include Mainzil Abubakar from Mannarkadu, Alamkod Leelakrishnan from Thrissur, K. Rajan from Ollur, Geeta Gopi from Natika, K.K. Valsaraj from Kapmangalam, V.R. Sunil Kumar from Kodungallur, E.T. Taison Master from Paravur, N. Arun from Muvattupuzha, P. Prasad from Cherthala, T.T. Jismon from Haripad, P. Pradeep from Vaikom, K. Saleem Kumar from Pirumedu, Priji Kannan from Adur, Ajay Prasad C from Punalur, J. Chinchurani from Chadayamangalam, Advocate M.S. Tara from Karunagappally, Advocate R. Rajendran from Chathannoor, G.R. Anil from Nedumangad, and Manoj B. Edamana from Chirayinkeezhu. Previously, the CPI had announced 75 candidates.

It is noteworthy that the Kerala Assembly elections will take place for 140 members on April 9, 2026, with the counting of votes and results to be declared on May 4, 2026. The term of the Kerala Assembly is set to end on May 23, 2026. In the previous assembly elections held in April 2021, the Left Democratic Front, led by the Communist Party of India (Marxist), secured 99 out of 140 seats, allowing Pinarayi Vijayan to take oath as Chief Minister once again.
