Record-Setting Wicketkeeper in IPL History

New Delhi, April 1: In the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL), only one wicketkeeper has managed to achieve the remarkable feat of making five dismissals in a single match. This record belongs to Kumar Sangakkara, who accomplished this milestone on April 14, 2011, while captaining the Deccan Chargers against Royal Challengers Bangalore.

The match, held at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, saw the Deccan Chargers batting first, scoring 175 runs after losing five wickets. Bharat Chipli played a crucial role, scoring an unbeaten 61 runs off 35 balls, while Sangakkara contributed 36 runs.

In response, RCB could only muster 142 runs, losing nine wickets. Virat Kohli was the standout performer for RCB, scoring 71 runs off 51 balls, but the rest of the batting lineup struggled.

Sangakkara’s exceptional wicketkeeping skills were on full display as he took catches to dismiss Tilakaratne Dilshan (7), AB de Villiers (0), Saurabh Tiwary (7), Johan van der Wath (0), and Ryan Ninan (3). Thanks to Sangakkara’s efforts, the Deccan Chargers secured a victory by 33 runs, with Dale Steyn and Manpreet Gony each taking three wickets for their team.
