Mumbai, April 28: Indian digital platforms are often filled with thrillers and romances, but the dark comedy film ‘Candy and the Pizza Girl’ is currently streaming on OTT. This film is set against the backdrop of Mumbai and tells the story of quirky characters and the unusual events that unfold around them.
Actor Ninad Kamat elaborated on the film’s unique genre in a recent conversation. He noted that there is always room for experimentation with dark comedy in Hindi cinema, and through this film, director Akhil has attempted to create something ‘different.’ The entire team realized during the production that they were making something unique and impactful.
Sharing an interesting anecdote about his character, Kamat mentioned, “Balancing personal life and a film character was somewhat challenging. The biggest discomfort for me was that my character is a drug user, while in real life, I am strictly against such things. It was difficult for me to enter that mindset as an artist, but it was necessary to portray the social class that sees themselves as gods and indulges in parties every night.”
He also referenced the cult classic film ‘Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro,’ stating that it is his favorite movie. Kamat said, “The way Satish Kaushik and other actors built comedy around a corpse in that film is something that may never be replicated. ‘Candy and the Pizza Girl’ attempts to carry forward the legacy of that genre with a different perspective and a new taste.”
Kamat clarified that his opinion is not just because he is part of the film, but as an audience member, he found director Akhil’s vision to be very honest and clear.
He added, “Often on OTT platforms, viewers start watching a web series with their families and suddenly face embarrassment due to inappropriate language. However, our team was clear from the beginning that this is an ‘adult’ film.”
