New Delhi, April 29: Amid ongoing tensions in West Asia, the central government has assured that the supply of petrol, diesel, and LPG in the country remains completely normal. The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas stated during an inter-ministerial briefing that the government is continuously monitoring the situation and taking necessary steps to ensure uninterrupted availability of fuel. All petrol pumps across the country have sufficient stock, and there has been no change in retail prices.
Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Sujata Sharma, confirmed that the supply of LPG is ongoing without any interruptions, with no reports of shortages. Online booking is available 24/7, and consumers are receiving timely delivery of cylinders.
In an official statement, the government revealed that over 5.08 million domestic LPG cylinders were distributed on April 28, 2026. Additionally, more than 73,000 small 5-kilogram FTL cylinders were also delivered. The online booking for LPG has surged, reaching nearly 98 percent.
To enhance delivery transparency, the use of Delivery Authentication Codes (DAC) has increased, now implemented in over 94 percent of deliveries. This code is sent to consumers’ mobile phones to prevent gas pilferage.
The statement further noted that the government has taken strict measures to curb LPG hoarding and black marketing, with over 2,200 raids conducted nationwide in a single day. Public sector oil companies (OMCs) have imposed fines on 325 LPG distributors and suspended 72 others, with several distributors also receiving notices.
Demand for small 5-kilogram cylinders has risen sharply. While 2.17 million cylinders were sold in February 2026, 2.1 million have been sold from April 1 to date.
Government oil companies have conducted over 9,550 awareness camps since April 3, selling more than 159,000 small cylinders, making gas access easier for the poor and needy.
In April 2026, commercial LPG sales exceeded 184,000 metric tons, equivalent to approximately 9.686 million 19-kilogram cylinders, with 8,838 metric tons sold alone on April 28.
There has also been a significant surge in demand for auto LPG, with average sales of 353 metric tons per day in April, compared to 177 metric tons per day in January-February, marking nearly a 100 percent increase.
The government stated that refineries in the country are operating at full capacity. Since April 9, over 8,900 metric tons of propylene and more than 950 metric tons of butyl acrylate have been supplied from refineries in Mumbai, Kochi, Visakhapatnam, Chennai, and Mathura to the chemicals, pharma, and paint industries.
Furthermore, the government has appealed to citizens not to panic-buy petrol, diesel, and LPG, urging them to avoid rumors and rely solely on official information.
LPG consumers have been encouraged to utilize digital booking and adopt alternative fuels such as PNG, electric, or induction cooktops, along with a call for energy conservation.
