
Gorakhpur, May 9: A tragic incident unfolded during a wedding ceremony in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, where a violent clash between the groom’s party and the guests resulted in one death and several injuries. Family members of the deceased are now seeking justice following the brutal altercation that occurred late Friday night.
The chaos erupted at a marriage hall in Akolawa, where the wedding of municipal employee Jitendra’s daughter was taking place. The dispute began over the music being played by the DJ, escalating further when a guest complained about not receiving a leg piece in the food.
Witnesses reported that the situation quickly turned violent, with both sides throwing stones and wielding swords. Amid the melee, a young man named Sumit, a resident of Water Tank, was severely injured and later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. Another individual, identified as Nepali, is currently undergoing treatment for serious injuries.
Sumit had recently married just three months ago, and his mother works as a cleaner for the railways. Following the incident, the accused fled the scene. The Shahpur police arrived promptly, taking possession of the body for post-mortem examination. Station Officer Rajesh Roshan Singh confirmed that a case has been registered based on the victim’s complaint, and approximately seven suspects have been arrested, with further actions pending.
