Bhopal, May 24: The last rites of Twisha Sharma, who allegedly committed suicide, will be held today at 5 PM at the Bhadbhada cremation ground, 13 days after her death. A team of senior doctors from AIIMS Delhi is currently conducting a second postmortem on her body.
The decision for a second postmortem was made following objections raised by Twisha’s family regarding the initial report dated May 13. A four-member medical board from AIIMS Delhi arrived in Bhopal on Saturday evening, led by Dr. Sudhir Gupta, head of the Forensic Medicine Department.
In an emotional statement released before the cremation, Twisha’s father, Nav Nidhi Sharma, expressed that the family has faced “deep sorrow, unbearable pain, and prolonged uncertainty” over the past 13 days.
The statement read, “With immense grief and a heavy heart, the family of the late Twisha Sharma announces that her last rites will be performed today at 5 PM at the Bhadbhada cremation ground in Bhopal.”
The family noted that the delay in the last rites has exacerbated their emotional trauma, particularly since many post-death rituals in Hinduism are traditionally completed within a 13-day mourning period.
The statement further revealed that the family is finally able to perform Twisha’s last rites, a painful reality that has emotionally shattered them.
Twisha Sharma was found dead under suspicious circumstances on May 12, leading to demands for a fair investigation. Her family reiterated their cooperation with the inquiry and maintained their trust in the legal process.
The family’s sole request is for all investigations to be conducted fairly, transparently, independently, and in full accordance with the law.
