New Delhi, May 25: Spain has announced its 26-member squad for the FIFA World Cup 2026, which is set to begin on June 11. Notably, 18-year-old Lamin Yamal has been included despite fitness concerns.
Head coach Luis de la Fuente has selected a balanced team that previously won the UEFA Euro 2024 title. Yamal, who plays for FC Barcelona, is expected to provide offensive strength for the Spanish national team. However, there are reports that the young sensation may miss the first group match due to injury.
Midfielder Fermín López underwent surgery last week after fracturing his leg, ruling him out of the World Cup. Spain’s midfield will feature key players like Pedri, Rodri, and Fabian Ruiz, who are expected to be the backbone of the team. Meanwhile, Nico Williams, Dani Olmo, and Ferran Torres will bring creativity and speed to the attack.
Before kicking off their World Cup campaign, the Spanish national team will play two friendly matches against Iraq and Peru on June 4 and 8, respectively.
Spain is grouped with Cape Verde, Saudi Arabia, and Uruguay in Group H of the FIFA World Cup 2026, with their first match scheduled against Cape Verde on June 14.
