Eid-ul-Azha Prayers Held in Kolkata, Mayor Calls for Peace and Prosperity

Kolkata, May 28: On the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha, TMC leader and Kolkata Mayor Firhad Hakim addressed journalists, expressing hopes for peace and happiness for all. He emphasized the importance of living with humanity and helping one another.

Hakim’s daughter, Priyadarshini Hakim, extended Eid greetings to everyone, urging that no actions should cause distress to others. She highlighted that in a secular country, food preferences should be personal and called for the central government to ensure the protection of cows, suggesting a ban on cow slaughter.

Regarding prayers held on the street, Priyadarshini noted that such practices are not common abroad. She mentioned that during Eid, prayers are offered while celebrations for Durga Puja also take place, urging everyone to focus on the country’s development without targeting any community.

Eid-ul-Azha prayers were conducted at the Brigade Parade Ground in Kolkata, where attendees exchanged greetings. One worshipper raised concerns about street prayers, stating that they cause inconvenience for passersby. He criticized Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for her political actions, praising the work of Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari.

Another worshipper stated that they accepted the government’s policy against street prayers and found the Brigade Parade Ground to be a better venue than Red Road for conducting prayers. He noted that this was the first time prayers were held at Brigade Parade Ground, emphasizing that everything was normal and that they would continue to pray there each year, adhering to the law while focusing on the nation’s progress under the new government’s directives.
