Shubman Gill Makes History as First Captain to Score Century in IPL Playoffs

New Chandigarh, May 30: In a thrilling encounter of IPL 2026, Gujarat Titans (GT) defeated Rajasthan Royals (RR) by 7 wickets in the second qualifier. The star of the match was captain Shubman Gill, who played a remarkable innings, achieving a feat no other captain in IPL history has accomplished.

Gill scored 104 runs off just 53 balls, hitting 15 fours and 3 sixes. He became the first captain to score a century in an IPL playoff match. Chasing a target of 215 runs set by RR, Gill provided a strong start alongside Sai Sudharsan, putting together a massive partnership of 167 runs for the first wicket in just 12.5 overs.

In the bowling department, GT’s Kagiso Rabada and Jason Holder each took 2 wickets. With this victory, Gujarat Titans have secured their place in the finals for the third time, where they will face Royal Challengers Bangalore on Sunday at the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad.
