New Chandigarh, May 30: In a thrilling encounter of IPL 2026, Gujarat Titans (GT) defeated Rajasthan Royals (RR) by 7 wickets in the second qualifier. The star of the match was captain Shubman Gill, who played a remarkable innings, achieving a feat no other captain in IPL history has accomplished.
Gill scored 104 runs off just 53 balls, hitting 15 fours and 3 sixes. He became the first captain to score a century in an IPL playoff match. Chasing a target of 215 runs set by RR, Gill provided a strong start alongside Sai Sudharsan, putting together a massive partnership of 167 runs for the first wicket in just 12.5 overs.
Sudharsan contributed significantly with a powerful innings of 58 runs off 32 balls, featuring 8 fours and 1 six. Washington Sundar added 16 runs, while Rahul Tewatia remained unbeaten with 17 runs off 9 balls. GT successfully chased down the target in 18.4 overs, losing 3 wickets.
Earlier, Rajasthan Royals posted a total of 214 runs after losing 6 wickets in their 20 overs. Vaibhav SuryaVanshi was the standout performer for RR, scoring 96 runs off 47 balls, including 8 fours and 7 sixes. Ravindra Jadeja contributed with a solid 45 runs off 35 balls, while Donovan Ferreira finished with a quick 38 runs off just 11 balls.
In the bowling department, GT’s Kagiso Rabada and Jason Holder each took 2 wickets. With this victory, Gujarat Titans have secured their place in the finals for the third time, where they will face Royal Challengers Bangalore on Sunday at the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad.
