RCB Clinches IPL 2026 Title, GT Captain Shubman Gill Reflects on Final Loss

Ahmedabad, May 31: Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) has emerged victorious in the IPL 2026 final, defeating Gujarat Titans (GT) by five wickets. This marks RCB’s second consecutive title win. GT captain Shubman Gill, who aimed to secure his first IPL title as captain and bring home a second title for GT, expressed his disappointment following the match.

After the game, Gill stated, “If we had reached around 180-190, it would have been a good match. The fast bowlers received some assistance in the first three to four overs, and after losing a few early wickets, we lost our momentum. We gave away 15-20 runs too many in the powerplay. I believe we were one of the best bowling teams in this tournament. After losing a few initial matches, we made a strong comeback. I am very happy. Although we didn’t reach the winning destination, there is always room for improvement, even if we had won the trophy.”

While Gill did not perform well in the final, scoring just 10 runs, he had an impressive tournament overall, finishing with 732 runs in 16 innings, placing him second after Vaibhav Suryavanshi. Gill had previously led GT to the final with a century against Rajasthan Royals in the second qualifier.

This was GT’s third final appearance, having won the title in 2022. In the IPL 2026 final, after losing the toss and batting first, GT managed to score 155 runs for the loss of 8 wickets. RCB chased down the target with a stellar unbeaten 75-run innings from Virat Kohli, finishing at 161 runs for 5 wickets in 18 overs to secure the IPL 2026 trophy.
