Paris, June 5: The men’s singles final of the 2026 French Open will take place on Sunday between Alexander Zverev and Flavio Cobolli, both vying for their first French Open title. Zverev secured his spot in the final by defeating Czech star Jakub Mensik, while Cobolli advanced after Matteo Arnaldi withdrew from the match due to illness.
In the first semifinal, Zverev triumphed over Mensik in four sets, winning 7-5, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 in a match that lasted three hours and one minute at Court Philippe-Chatrier in Paris. This marks Zverev’s second appearance in the French Open final.
After his victory, Zverev commented, “Mensik started playing incredibly well in the third set. He really reached a different level. But this is a Grand Slam. It’s a best-of-five sets match. Opponents will play better. You have to deal with it. I did, and I hope to play another great match on Sunday.”
The second semifinal was heartbreaking for Matteo Arnaldi, who had to withdraw from his match against Cobolli due to a viral illness. With Arnaldi’s exit, Cobolli has reached his first Grand Slam final, where he will face Zverev on Sunday.
The final is expected to be thrilling, with Zverev leading their ATP head-to-head series 3-1. They last met in the third round of Roland Garros last year, where Zverev won 6-2, 7-6(4), 6-1.
At 29 years old, Zverev has an impressive record in major tournaments, having been the runner-up at the US Open in 2020, losing in the Australian Open final last year, and coming just one set away from winning the French Open title in 2024. He will aim for his first French Open crown against Cobolli on Sunday.
