Police Crack Down on 49 Criminal Gangs in Ghazipur

Ghazipur, June 7: In a significant operation against criminal gangs active on social media and at the local level, the Ghazipur police have achieved major success during a five-day special campaign named Operation Vajrapaat. The police have identified 49 gangs and their 401 members.

During the operation, 39 cases were registered, and 11 suspects were arrested. Preventive action has also been taken against the identified gang members.

Ghazipur’s Superintendent of Police, Dr. Iraz Raja, informed the news agency that several gangs, including the Katra Gang, Mahakal Gang, 315 Gang, and Farsa Gang, are active in the district. Members of these gangs often form groups and roam around on multiple motorcycles, instilling fear in the general public while showcasing their criminal activities through aggressive posts, videos, Facebook Live, and Instagram reels.

He noted that several members have been found attempting to assert dominance by posting photos and videos with illegal weapons. Under the guidance of Deputy Inspector General Vaibhav Krishna, detailed information about the leaders and active members of these gangs was gathered during the campaign, which ran from June 1 to June 5. A total of 401 members from 49 gangs were identified, with many facing charges under various sections of the law.

The Superintendent revealed that the police had already arrested 10 members from seven gangs active on social media. Among those arrested are Shubham Yadav from the 5581 Gang, Saurabh from the 999 Gang, Mahendra Yadav, Ankur, and Sonu Rajbhar from the 0777 Gang, Sandeep from the Swan 191773 Gang, Ajay Yadav from the Panchi Gang 1303, Lakshmi Narayan Rai from the Radhe-Radhe Gang, Kamran from the Karoveer Gang, and Mohammad Rashid.

SP Dr. Iraz Raja clarified that operations against such gangs will continue in the future. Vigilance is being maintained on the activities of any gang active on social media and at the local level. Any display of weapons, threatening posts, or attempts to intimidate people or disturb law and order will be strictly dealt with. This campaign is considered a significant step towards establishing peace and the rule of law in the district.

Local residents have welcomed the police’s actions. The police stated that all identified gangs and their members are under special surveillance, and strict action will be taken if necessary.
