Princes Place in Playing XI for Ireland-England Series in Question

New Delhi, June 8: The Indian team selected for the upcoming tour of Ireland and England includes four fast bowlers, among whom is the emerging talent Prince Yadav. After earning a spot in the ODI team against Afghanistan, Prince has successfully gained the selectors’ confidence for the T20 format as well. However, a significant question remains: will Prince secure a place in the playing eleven throughout the tour, and if the team management decides to include him, who will have to sit out?

Jasprit Bumrah has been rested for the Ireland-England series, leading to Mohammad Siraj taking charge of the fast-bowling attack. Siraj will be supported by Arshdeep Singh, who is already part of the squad. Additionally, Harshit Rana has returned to full fitness and is back in the team, having previously earned the management’s trust. Harshit’s ability to contribute with both bat and ball makes it challenging for Prince to find a spot in the playing eleven.

In IPL 2026, Prince played for Lucknow Super Giants, taking 16 wickets in 14 matches. He caught everyone’s attention when he clean bowled Virat Kohli with a brilliant delivery. Before the T20 matches, Prince might get a chance in the ODI format against Afghanistan, and his performance there could determine his inclusion in the final eleven for the Ireland and England tour.

Prince faces stiff competition for a place, especially with Nitish Kumar Reddy and Shivam Dube also included in the T20 squad, both of whom can contribute with bat and ball. If the team management is highly impressed with Prince’s abilities, his best chance for inclusion seems to be in the match against Ireland, although India is scheduled to play only two T20 matches against them.

This raises the question of whether it was the right decision to include Prince in the squad for this tour. The selectors had the option to send him to play for India A against Sri Lanka, where he would have had more opportunities to showcase his bowling skills.
