New Delhi, June 8: In a significant meeting of the opposition bloc ‘India‘ held in the national capital, Sharad Pawar, the president of the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar faction), expressed his views on the need for opposition unity and future political strategies. He noted that the current national politics is clearly divided into two poles: one led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the other comprising political parties and leaders who disagree with his ideology and are striving to unite.
Pawar highlighted that during recent elections in various states, opposition parties adopted different strategies. While some parties collaborated for elections in certain states, others contested separately. Additionally, he observed changes in political equations following the election results in some regions. He emphasized the need for better coordination and dialogue among opposition parties in light of these circumstances.
He mentioned that the ruling party in Tamil Nadu, the DMK, is not participating in this meeting, but efforts to strengthen opposition unity are ongoing. Pawar indicated that another meeting of senior opposition leaders will be organized within the next 8 to 15 days to discuss and formulate a comprehensive strategy.
The NCP leader expressed hope that the existing differences among opposition parties would be resolved, allowing them to develop a shared political vision. He advised against adopting extreme or rigid stances, as the goal of opposition unity is to create broad democratic consensus.
Participants from the NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) included MP Supriya Sule. Pawar stated that the conclusions of the meeting and the way forward would be clarified by evening. He also noted that with no major national elections in the next two to three years, opposition parties have ample time to strengthen their organizational structures and prepare a joint strategy.
