New Delhi, May 24: Israel’s detention of participants from a Gaza-bound flotilla has sparked outrage among Arab and Islamic nations. Allegations have emerged that Israeli Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir displayed publicly humiliating behavior towards the detainees. In response, Qatar’s Foreign Ministry issued a statement condemning the minister’s actions.
Foreign ministers from eight Arab and Islamic countries have strongly criticized the extreme actions of the Israeli minister against those involved in the flotilla. The statement from Qatar’s Foreign Ministry highlighted the unacceptable and degrading behavior exhibited by Ben-Gvir while the participants were in Israeli custody.
The ministry stated, “The State of Qatar, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, the Republic of Indonesia, Pakistan, Egypt, and Turkey’s foreign ministers have condemned the horrific and unacceptable actions of the extremist Israeli minister Itamar Ben-Gvir against the flotilla participants while they were in Israeli detention.”
The ministers emphasized that Ben-Gvir’s deliberate humiliation of detainees represents a disgraceful attack on human dignity and a clear violation of Israel’s obligations under international law, including international humanitarian and human rights law.
Furthermore, they condemned the incitement and violent actions of Ben-Gvir and other Israeli officials against Palestinians in the occupied territories. The Qatari Foreign Ministry warned that Ben-Gvir’s provocative actions promote hatred and extremism, hindering efforts to achieve a just and lasting peace based on a two-state solution. The ministers called for accountability for Ben-Gvir’s actions and urged concrete measures to prevent further provocations and violations, stressing the need to protect human rights and ensure the dignity and humane treatment of all detainees while fully respecting international law in the occupied Palestinian territories.
