Itanagar, May 27: The Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, K.T. Parnaik, stated on Wednesday that women in the state are playing a crucial role in the social, economic, and community life of Arunachal Pradesh. He emphasized that women’s contributions are vital for the development and progress of society, and their participation is essential for making the state self-reliant.
During a meeting at Lok Bhawan in Itanagar with Vijayalakshmi Rahtkar, Chairperson of the National Commission for Women, the Governor praised the active role of women in Arunachal. He noted that women are excelling in various sectors, including agriculture, entrepreneurship, administration, and social campaigns.
The Governor specifically commended the success of women’s self-help groups, stating that these groups are playing a transformative role in improving livelihoods, enhancing economic self-reliance, and strengthening society in rural areas.
The meeting addressed several issues and challenges related to women’s safety, welfare, empowerment, and socio-economic development. The Governor mentioned that women in Arunachal are also actively participating in anti-drug campaigns, cleanliness drives, health, and sanitation awareness programs.
He highlighted that women from various tribal communities in the state have long been the guardians of family values, traditions, and social harmony. They also play a significant role in preserving traditional handloom, textile arts, and cultural heritage.
The Governor asserted that the progress of Arunachal Pradesh is directly linked to women’s empowerment. He stressed that increased participation of women in education, administration, entrepreneurship, and nation-building is crucial for making the state progressive, inclusive, and self-reliant.
He also praised the upcoming “Jan Sunwai – National Commission for Women at Your Door” program scheduled for May 29 in Itanagar, stating that such initiatives provide women with an important platform to voice their issues, seek assistance, and become aware of their rights. The meeting was also attended by Yaleem Taga Burang, Chairperson of the Arunachal Pradesh State Women’s Commission.
