Delhi Police Nab Notorious Snatcher with 31 Stolen Mobiles

New Delhi: Delhi Police‘s Crime Branch has made a significant breakthrough in mobile phone snatching and theft cases. The Central Range Crime Branch team arrested a notorious criminal and recovered 31 stolen and snatched mobile phones from his possession, a police press release stated on Tuesday.

The arrested accused has been identified as Jai Bhagwan, also known as Kalu or Kale, aged around 35, residing in Bhalswa Dairy, Delhi. According to police, the suspect has been involved in several mobile snatching and theft incidents across various parts of Delhi. Based on solid and specific intelligence inputs about his activities, a special team from the Central Range Crime Branch was formed.

Delhi Police revealed that the accused used a rented house in Swaroop Nagar, Delhi, to store the stolen and snatched mobile phones, which he later sold through illegal channels.

The operation was led by Inspector Sunil Kumar Kalkhande with team members including SI Naveen Dahiya, SI Birpal, and several head constables such as Vijay Singh Yadav, Parveen, Samandar, Rahul, Roshan, Jai Singh, Sandeep Dahiya, and Rajprakash. Continuous surveillance was maintained in the Swaroop Nagar area. The action was carried out under the supervision of the Additional DCP of Central Range Crime Branch and senior officials.

Using a combination of technical and manual inputs, the team apprehended the accused from the Burari Road area in Swaroop Nagar. During interrogation and search, a large number of stolen and snatched smartphones were recovered. The seized phones included expensive brands such as iPhones and Samsung Galaxy devices, totaling 31 units.

According to the police, the accused confessed to carrying out the crimes in collaboration with an accomplice. They would collect the stolen phones at the rented premises and then sell them through illegal networks. Out of the recovered phones, five have already been linked to various First Information Reports (FIRs) and loss reports, while investigations regarding the rest are ongoing.

Police also disclosed that Jai Bhagwan, alias Kalu or Kale, has a prior criminal record. Born in Jahangirpuri, he lost his father at a young age and fell into the company of street criminals, choosing a life of crime for easy money and comfort. He is currently facing seven criminal cases related to robbery, theft, and snatching registered at different police stations across Delhi.
