Muzaffarpur, January 12. Severe cold and dense fog in Bihar have severely affected traffic conditions. In the early hours of Monday, a major road accident occurred on the Muzaffarpur-Darbhanga National Highway due to the thick fog, resulting in a collision between multiple vehicles.
According to police reports, the incident took place near the Kewatsar turn in the Benibad police station area, where several vehicles, including an ambulance, crashed into each other. The impact was so strong that the ambulance was severely damaged, leaving the driver and three other individuals critically injured.
Eyewitnesses stated that the ambulance was carrying a patient who was on a ventilator and required oxygen support. The collision was so violent that the front of the ambulance was completely wrecked, trapping the driver and the patient’s relatives inside. Local residents rushed to the scene upon hearing screams and, using sticks and metal rods, managed to break the ambulance’s door and windows to rescue the trapped individuals.
The three critically injured persons were immediately taken to a local hospital, where due to their precarious condition, doctors referred them for advanced treatment to Shri Krishna Medical College and Hospital.
It has been reported that the accident occurred when vehicles in front suddenly braked or slowed down due to the fog, causing a chain reaction of collisions among the vehicles behind. Following the incident, police quickly arrived at the scene, where the wrecked vehicles caused significant traffic congestion on the highway.
With the help of local villagers and a crane, police cleared the damaged vehicles from the road to restore traffic flow. An investigation into the incident is currently underway.
