Kapurtthala, January 12 – The political atmosphere in Punjab’s Phagwara has intensified following a shooting incident involving gangsters at a sweet shop, just before Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s scheduled visit. Local BJP president Sunil Jakhar has expressed deep concern over the state of law and order and has raised serious questions about the government’s claims regarding crime control.
In a post on social media platform X, Jakhar stated, “Today in Phagwara, the gangs issued a challenge to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s claim of eliminating gangsters in seven days, as they fired seven rounds at a sweet shop. This act demonstrates how gangsters are openly challenging the police and the government.”
Jakhar further pointed out that a similar incident of indiscriminate firing had occurred at the home of AAP leader Daljit Singh Raju in Phagwara earlier.
The BJP leader questioned the effectiveness of the AAP government, asking, “Can the government do anything about this? When criminals can fire openly and challenge the police, one must wonder if the government and police have completely failed or are merely pretending while leaving the citizens at the mercy of gangsters.”
Notably, the incident took place around 7 AM on Monday at the ‘Sudhir Sweet Shop’ located on Hoshiarpur Road. Upon receiving the report, police teams quickly arrived at the scene to gather information.
During their investigation, police discovered bullet casings at the site, which have been seized. Authorities are now working to identify the attackers by interviewing local residents and reviewing nearby CCTV footage to apprehend them as soon as possible.
