Chennai, May 24: The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has predicted heavy rainfall in Tamil Nadu over the coming days due to atmospheric circulation in the southeastern Bay of Bengal and its adjoining central regions. Several districts in the state are expected to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall.
According to the weather department, heavy rainfall is likely on Sunday in ten districts, including Nilgiris, Erode, Salem, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Tirupattur, Vellore, Tiruvannamalai, Kallakurichi, and Namakkal.
The RMC has indicated that the intensity of rainfall is expected to increase in the next few days due to the current weather conditions. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is forecasted for several districts, including Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Erode, Tiruppur, Salem, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Tirupattur, Vellore, Ranipet, Tiruvannamalai, Kallakurichi, Perambalur, Tiruchi, Namakkal, Karur, Dindigul, Theni, and Madurai. Similar conditions are expected to persist the following day, potentially leading to intense rainfall in many of these areas.
Officials have advised residents in sensitive and low-lying areas to remain vigilant, as heavy rainfall could lead to flooding and disrupt daily life.
The weather department also mentioned that isolated heavy rainfall is likely on May 26 in the hilly regions of Coimbatore and Tiruppur, as well as in Nilgiris, Theni, Dindigul, Virudhunagar, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli, and Kanyakumari districts.
Despite the forecast of rain, no significant change in maximum temperatures is expected in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, with temperatures likely to remain around normal levels.
For Chennai, the forecast indicates partly cloudy skies with a possibility of light to moderate rainfall in the evening or night. Intermittent showers and clouds are expected to keep the weather relatively pleasant in the city.
Officials have urged residents, particularly those living in hilly and flood-prone areas, to stay updated on weather information and take necessary precautions.
