Harare, February 6: India triumphed over England by 100 runs in the final of the U19 World Cup 2026 held at Harare Sports Club on Friday, securing the championship title for the sixth time. The standout performance came from opener Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who scored an impressive 175 runs, playing a pivotal role in India’s victory.
After the match, Suryavanshi expressed his emotions, stating that the team had been working hard for the past 7-8 months to achieve this success. His innings included 15 fours and as many sixes, breaking several records along the way. For his remarkable performance, he was awarded both the ‘Player of the Match’ and ‘Player of the Series’ titles.
Reflecting on the win, Suryavanshi said, “I cannot express my feelings in words. The entire team has worked hard over the past 7-8 months, and our support staff has been with us for a long time, ensuring we stay fit. I want to dedicate this award to them.”
He added, “We didn’t feel too much pressure. We just thought about playing our natural game, following the good processes we established during the tournament. Our preparation has been consistent over the last 8-9 months, and only the players know how much effort we put in. I trusted my skills to contribute in big matches, and that’s what happened today.”
In the final match, India scored 411 runs for the loss of 9 wickets. In response, England was bowled out for 311 runs in 40.2 overs. Caleb Faulkner was the top scorer for England with 115 runs, but his efforts were not enough to prevent a disappointing defeat for his team.
