
Bhopal, May 6: Madhya Pradesh‘s Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla emphasized the state’s commitment to organ transplant initiatives, highlighting their potential to transform lives. During a discussion with a delegation from AIIMS Bhopal, Shukla addressed the expansion and strengthening of organ transplant activities in the state. He stated that the government is making continuous efforts to promote organ donation, including honoring donors with a ‘Guard of Honor’ and publicly recognizing their families on January 26 and August 15.
Shukla noted that organ donation can bring new hope to many lives. To raise awareness among the public, ongoing campaigns, workshops, and dialogue programs are being organized to encourage more people to participate in this noble cause. He also praised the organ transplant services and awareness initiatives undertaken by AIIMS, recognizing the contributions of Director Prof. Dr. Madhabanand Kar and the entire delegation.
The meeting included discussions on increasing the kidney transplant package under the Ayushman Bharat scheme and incorporating heart and lung transplants. Additionally, possibilities for further strengthening transplant services were explored, including enhancing the timely identification of potential brain-dead donors and improving the referral system through technical collaboration.
A proposal was also made to develop a shared digital platform to establish better coordination among government hospitals and medical colleges in the state, streamlining the organ procurement and transplant process. Deputy Chief Minister Shukla assured that prompt action would be taken on the suggestions received to strengthen the transplant process and enhance awareness activities. The meeting also covered the expansion of modern techniques in transplant surgery, particularly robotic surgery, to ensure improved treatment quality and success rates.
The AIIMS team presented updates on heart and kidney transplants, the expansion of lung transplant services, and other technical aspects. Shukla assured full support from the state government for the expansion of these services.
