NCRTC Launches Menstrual Hygiene Awareness Campaign

New Delhi, May 28: On the occasion of Menstrual Hygiene Day, the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) has initiated a two-day special campaign at the Sarai Kale Khan and Begumpul Nammo Bharat stations to raise awareness about menstrual health and hygiene among female passengers. Held on May 27 and 28, the campaign aims to provide women with essential information regarding menstrual hygiene, dispel social stigma and misconceptions, and promote safe health practices in public spaces.

This initiative was organized in collaboration with DB RRTS India, the operations and maintenance partner for the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Nammo Bharat Corridor. Special information desks and awareness kiosks were set up at the stations, where female volunteers engaged with passengers to share information about menstrual health, hygiene, and necessary precautions. Additionally, free sanitary pads, period trackers, and hygiene kits were distributed to women passengers.

To ensure maximum participation, NCRTC also established interactive activity zones and theme-based photo booths at the stations. Volunteers inside the women’s coaches interacted with passengers to raise awareness about misconceptions and social taboos related to menstruation. This initiative aimed to create a comfortable and safe environment for women to discuss the topic openly.

Women passengers welcomed this initiative, stating that awareness programs at public transport locations are crucial. Many passengers acknowledged that such campaigns not only increase awareness about menstrual health but also help normalize open discussions on the subject within society.

NCRTC emphasizes that menstrual health is a vital aspect of women’s overall health and dignified living. However, due to social stigma and a lack of awareness, open discussions on this topic remain limited. Keeping this in mind, the corporation regularly conducts social awareness campaigns.

Earlier this year, NCRTC also launched a gender sensitization campaign titled “Wings of Aspirations.” This initiative aims to promote gender sensitivity, understand the challenges faced by female passengers, and strengthen community participation in ensuring their safety. Over the next five years, the campaign will not only focus on improving facilities but also strive to bring about a positive change in people’s attitudes and perspectives.

NCRTC continues to implement new initiatives to enhance passenger convenience and safety along the Nammo Bharat Corridor, working towards providing fast, safe, and comfortable travel while developing stations and trains as centers for social awareness and community engagement.
