Mumbai, March 12: After enduring significant personal tragedies, actress Nimrat Kaur has carved a niche for herself in both Bollywood and Hollywood. Known for her roles in films like ‘The Lunchbox,’ ‘Peddlers,’ and the series ‘Homeland,’ her journey to success has not been easy.
Born on March 13 in a village in Rajasthan, Nimrat hails from a military family. Her father, Major Bhupinder Singh, was an officer in the Indian Army who tragically lost his life during a kidnapping in Kashmir when she was just 12 years old. Following this loss, Nimrat and her family relocated to Noida, where she completed her college education.
With a passion for the glitz of Bollywood, Nimrat moved to Mumbai to pursue her dreams. She began her career in theatre, participating in various plays to hone her craft. However, the path to films was fraught with challenges. To support herself, she took up print modeling but faced numerous rejections from the film industry due to her looks, height, and physique. Despite these setbacks, Nimrat remained resilient.
In an interview, she revealed that she had to audition 85-90 times before landing her first role. Her initial foray into the entertainment industry was in 2004 with music albums, featuring in songs like “Tera Mera Pyaar” and “Yeh Kya Hua.” It was director Anurag Kashyap who eventually opened the doors for her in Bollywood. She gained recognition in 2012 with the film ‘Peddlers,’ but it was ‘The Lunchbox’ that truly catapulted her to fame.
Today, Nimrat showcases her acting prowess across both the big screen and OTT platforms, with popular titles like ‘The Family Man,’ ‘Airlift,’ ‘Skyforce,’ and ‘Dasvi’ capturing the audience’s attention.
