New Delhi, May 7: On the first anniversary of Operation Sindoor, Air Marshal Avadhesh Kumar Bharti of the Indian Air Force emphasized the importance of decisive action in the face of terrorism. He stated that India‘s cultural ethos has always been about coexistence, but when peace is perceived as weakness, action becomes the only option. “When India acts, it does so decisively and legitimately,” he remarked, highlighting that Operation Sindoor was a balanced response targeting terrorists and their patrons.
During the event, he referenced Mission Sudarshan Chakra, in which he actively participated, and discussed the ongoing efforts to enhance the country’s capabilities through an integrated command and control system. He noted that it has been exactly one year since Indian forces successfully struck their targets. He condemned the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, which claimed innocent lives on April 22, 2025, asserting that such incidents must not recur.
Air Marshal Bharti explained that Operation Sindoor, currently in a suspended state, was initiated with clear objectives and full operational freedom granted to the armed forces. He emphasized that the essence of the operation was ‘jointness’, with careful consideration given to every decision by the committee of the Chief of Defence Staff and the heads of the three armed forces. The mission aimed to dismantle terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir and within Pakistan itself.
He clarified that the moment the first weapon hit its target, it marked India’s entry into a new chapter in its policy and response to terrorism. The planning of these operations focused on meticulous details, ensuring that strikes were not only impactful but also precise. The execution was carried out with clock-like accuracy once all preparations were complete.
Addressing questions about the decision to halt operations, he stated that the fight was against terrorists and their support structures, and all objectives had been achieved. The request for a ceasefire from the opposing side came after they suffered significant losses, but he stressed that India did not yield. The message was clear: any act of aggression would be met with a response, and the costs of terrorist actions would be borne.
Reflecting on the lessons learned from the operation, he noted that real-world campaigns provide invaluable training experiences. The operation reaffirmed the supreme role of air power, which encompasses all capabilities operating in the air. It also highlighted the importance of jointness and a comprehensive national approach, validating the significance of precision targeting and network-centric warfare.
He concluded by stating that the Indian Air Force remains vigilant and prepared to respond to any challenges to peace and sovereignty. “No distance is too great, no depth too vast, and no dimension beyond our control,” he asserted, reinforcing the commitment to national security.
