New Delhi/Meerut, January 10. Tensions have escalated in Meerut following the Murder of a woman and the Abduction of her daughter, prompting strong criticism from opposition parties towards the Uttar Pradesh government. They claim that the state is spiraling into a state of lawlessness.
Congress leader Udit Raj took to social media platform ‘X’ on Saturday, stating, “In Kapsad village of Meerut, a Dalit woman was on her way to the fields with her daughter when the assailants attempted to kidnap her daughter. When the mother tried to intervene, she was killed, and the daughter was abducted. It has been nearly 48 hours since this incident, but there has been no progress in the investigation.”
Udit Raj highlighted the alarming rise in incidents of Dalit oppression in Uttar Pradesh and questioned, “Have bulldozers been sent to the homes of the accused and their relatives? This is a glimpse of what could happen before a Hindu nation is established.”
Speaking to a news agency, Samajwadi Party leader Yogesh Verma described the incident as “deeply painful and shocking,” stating that it has shaken the entire Dalit community in the district. He emphasized the need for action against such brutal acts and insisted that the government must hold the culprits accountable. “The administration should have acted decisively against the accused by now,” he added.
According to Meerut Police, criminals abducted a 20-year-old girl in Kapsad village. During the incident, a 50-year-old woman attempted to protect her daughter but was attacked with a sharp weapon by the assailants. The woman later succumbed to her injuries in the hospital.
The incident has sparked outrage in the area. Police have identified the suspects as Paras Som and Sunil Kumar, both residents of the same village. Currently, law enforcement is actively searching for the accused and the kidnapped girl.
