Vidisha, January 8 – In Madhya Pradesh’s Vidisha district, Collector Anshul Gupta lost his temper during an inspection of a government hostel, reprimanding the hostel superintendent and a teacher harshly and reportedly using abusive language. Following public backlash, the collector issued a formal apology.
The incident took place in Udaipur village of the Ganjbasoda area, where Collector Gupta was inspecting a government hostel. Upon noticing the absence of some students, he became upset and scolded the superintendent and teacher present. A video of the episode went viral on social media, showing the collector allegedly threatening the teacher with words like, “I will hit you with two shoes.”
The viral video sparked discussions across administrative circles from Vidisha to Bhopal, raising questions about the collector’s conduct. As criticism mounted, Gupta released a video statement on social media expressing regret. He clarified that the inspection was in a tribal students’ hostel housing children from grades one to five.
“During the inspection, some words slipped from my mouth that should not have been said from my side. I sincerely regret this,” he stated in his apology.
This episode adds to recent instances in the state where the behaviour of administrative officials has been questioned. Earlier, a female officer in Chhatarpur district was reported to have slapped a farmer, among other such incidents.
