Guwahati: In a stunning display of batting prowess, India chased down a target of 154 runs in just 10 overs during the third T20 match at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium. This remarkable feat made India the first full member team to chase a 150+ run target with the highest number of balls remaining.
The chase was completed in 60 balls, setting a new benchmark. Previously, the fastest chase against South Africa by the West Indies in 2024 was achieved with 37 balls remaining, while England stands third on the list with 33 balls left.
This victory also marks the largest ball-difference win while chasing any target against New Zealand, as no team had previously completed such a chase within 10 overs against them.
With this win, India has become the joint number one country for the most consecutive T20 series victories. Since 2024, Team India has clinched 11 T20 series titles, matching Pakistan’s record from 2016 to 2018.
At home, India leads as the full member team with the most consecutive series wins, having won 10 straight series since 2022. Australia follows with eight consecutive home series wins between 2006 and 2010.
New Zealand, batting first after winning the toss, posted 153 runs for 9 wickets. Glenn Phillips top-scored with 48 runs, while Mark Chapman contributed 32 runs. Jasprit Bumrah was the standout bowler for India, taking 3 wickets.
In response, India completed the chase in just 10 overs. Abhishek Sharma remained unbeaten on 68, and captain Suryakumar Yadav scored an unbeaten 57. This victory gave India an unassailable 3-0 lead in the five-match series.
