Mumbai, February 7: Sergio Gore, the United States Ambassador to India, met with ICC President Jay Shah during the T20 World Cup 2026 match between India and the USA at Wankhede Stadium.
Following their meeting, Gore expressed his excitement on social media platform X, stating, “It was great to meet ICC President Jay Shah at the T20 World Cup today. We discussed the rapid growth of cricket in the USA, thanks to our world-class infrastructure, talent, and tremendous fans.”
Gore also had the opportunity to meet business tycoon Mukesh Ambani and his wife, Nita Ambani. Sharing a photo with the couple, he wrote, “It was wonderful to see my friends Mukesh and Nita Ambani during the India vs. USA match at the T20 World Cup.”
Additionally, Gore posted a picture with Jay Shah and the American team, expressing pride in the American Cricket team and highlighting the excitement of the match held in Mumbai.
Cricket is gaining popularity rapidly in the USA, especially after the USA’s stunning victory over Pakistan in the T20 World Cup 2024.
In the match, India batted first after losing the toss, but their performance was disappointing. Apart from captain Suryakumar Yadav, no other batsman managed to score significantly. Yadav, batting at number four, scored an unbeaten 84 runs off 49 balls, including 10 fours and 4 sixes, leading India to a total of 161 runs.
The USA team managed to score only 132 runs for 8 wickets in their 20 overs, losing the match by 29 runs. For India, Mohammad Siraj took 3 wickets, while Arshdeep Singh and Axar Patel claimed 2 wickets each. Varun Chakravarthy also took 1 wicket. Suryakumar Yadav was named Player of the Match.
