Attack on Farooq Abdullah at Wedding Ceremony Condemned

New Delhi, March 12: Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Farooq Abdullah, narrowly escaped an assassination attempt during a wedding ceremony. The incident has drawn widespread condemnation from various political leaders, who have called it a serious security lapse and demanded strict action against those responsible.

Congress leader Sachin Pilot expressed concern over the incident, stating that Farooq Abdullah was targeted at a wedding, and fortunately, he is safe. He took to social media platform ‘X’ to emphasize the need for a thorough and in-depth investigation into this serious security breach.

Sakeena Ittoo, a minister in the Jammu and Kashmir government, condemned the attack on Farooq Abdullah, questioning how such a serious assault could occur against a former chief minister who is protected by ‘Z Plus’ security. She expressed relief that he is safe and stressed the necessity for a comprehensive investigation and accountability for this grave security lapse.

Earlier, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah posted on ‘X’ that his father narrowly escaped harm. While details remain unclear, it has been reported that an individual managed to approach at point-blank range with a loaded pistol and fired a shot. It was only due to the quick action of the close protection team that the attack was thwarted. Omar Abdullah raised questions about how someone could get so close to a former chief minister with NSG-protected security.

Member of Parliament Agha Syed Ruhullah Mehdi also condemned the attack, stating that such violence is a matter of deep concern and that those responsible should face severe punishment.

Farooq Abdullah and Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Chaudhary were attending an event when the shooting occurred. Both are reported to be safe, and a suspect has been taken into custody. Police are currently interrogating the individual and investigating the incident.
