Chennai, March 24: As the electoral fervor rises in South India, the alliance picture in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry has become clearer. The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK)-led coalition has allocated a total of 8 seats to the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), with 6 seats reserved and 2 in the general category.
This seat-sharing agreement was signed by VCK leader Thol. Thirumavalavan and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK President M.K. Stalin. It is considered a crucial part of the coalition’s strategy for the upcoming assembly elections.
Earlier, on March 21, Thirumavalavan expressed concerns regarding the challenges faced by his party, despite its 25-year political journey. He noted that the party continues to struggle to secure adequate electoral opportunities.
While interacting with party workers via Facebook Live, Thirumavalavan stated, “Even after 25 years, this political arena feels new to us. We have not fully adapted to it, and the social environment has not been in our favor.” He also accused certain forces of not wanting his party to emerge as a strong political power.
In Puducherry, the alliance talks between Congress and DMK for the assembly elections scheduled for April 9 have concluded. Following this, DMK has released its candidate list for 13 seats, having received a total of 14 seats, including one for VCK.
According to the electoral schedule, voting in Tamil Nadu will take place on April 23, while Puducherry will vote on April 9. Additionally, election results for all states, including Assam, Kerala, and West Bengal, will be announced on May 4.
Voting will occur for all 234 assembly seats in Tamil Nadu and 30 seats in Puducherry, prompting major political parties to finalize their preparations. Following the seat-sharing agreement, the focus is now on candidate campaigning and electoral strategies.
Political analysts suggest that the coalition equations in these states could significantly impact the electoral outcomes.
