New Delhi, May 3: The Delhi Police‘s Crime Branch has achieved a significant breakthrough in a ₹2 crore extortion case, arresting a key member of the notorious Nandu Gang, identified as ‘Captain’.
Police officials stated that Captain is a habitual offender involved in numerous heinous crimes, including murder, attempted murder, extortion, and armed robbery across the Delhi-NCR region. He had been evading arrest by frequently changing his hideouts after committing crimes.
This case is linked to a high-profile extortion demand made by gangster Kapil Sangwan, alias Nandu, who sought ₹2 crore from a victim. Following a complaint from the victim, the police registered a case on August 29, 2025. When the victim refused to comply with the demands, gang members surveilled the victim’s home and prepared video footage to intimidate him into paying.
Authorities revealed that the complainant received a threatening message and video via WhatsApp from an unknown number, threatening to kill him and his family if the extortion payment was not made. During the investigation, a PCR call alerted the police to two unknown individuals surveilling the complainant’s residence on a motorcycle. The police apprehended an accused named Jatin, who disclosed the involvement of co-accused Deva and gangster Kapil Sangwan.
Jatin revealed that after the surveillance, there were plans to shoot at the complainant’s house, facilitated by the wanted Captain, who was supplying illegal weapons. Further investigations led to the arrest of another accused, Karthik Tyagi, alias Antil, who was also involved in the conspiracy and was found with an illegal weapon. Captain had evaded capture during the raid at that time.
Captain played a crucial role as a weapons supplier and facilitator in the plot to shoot at the victim’s home. On May 1, the Delhi Police received a tip-off about Captain’s whereabouts, indicating he would arrive in the Dinpur area of Delhi.
A special team was formed to apprehend him, led by Inspector Satish Malik, with four other officers. The team conducted technical surveillance and tracked the suspect’s location. Subsequently, they laid a trap in Dinpur and successfully arrested him. Further actions in the case are ongoing.
