New Delhi, May 18: V.D. Satheesan has taken the oath of office as the new Chief Minister of Kerala. The swearing-in ceremony was held at the Central Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram, where the Governor administered the oath.
The event was attended by prominent Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and the party’s national president Mallikarjun Kharge, along with several senior party officials.
With Satheesan’s swearing-in, the decade-long rule of CPI(M) leader Pinarayi Vijayan has officially come to an end. The Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) has returned to power 15 years after the late former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy’s tenure.
Congress leaders have described this swearing-in as the beginning of a new political era in Kerala. Mallikarjun Kharge remarked that it is a historic victory for Kerala, and everyone is delighted about it.
He emphasized that it is a special day for the people of Kerala as the UDF returns to power after ten years, indicating that the public has rejected the ten-year rule of the LDF. He stated, “Now it is our responsibility to provide good governance to the people of Kerala.”
In the recently concluded elections, the United Democratic Front made a remarkable comeback, winning 102 seats in the 140-member assembly, with the Congress securing a record 63 seats, marking its best performance in the state to date.
