New Delhi, May 24: External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar held a bilateral meeting with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio at Hyderabad House in New Delhi. In his opening remarks, he expressed optimism and confidence regarding the discussions.
Jaishankar stated, “We have a comprehensive global strategic partnership, which simply means that we share deep and broad cooperation. This relationship impacts other areas and the world as well.”
He further added, “This is because our interests align on many issues and across various parts of the world. Therefore, I am eager about our discussions today. These are complex times, but as strong partners, I am confident that our dialogue will be very open and productive. Once again, welcome.”
Following this, both leaders will engage in a delegation-level meeting at Hyderabad House, focusing on enhancing cooperation in sectors such as trade, energy, and technology.
Earlier on Saturday, Rubio met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, where he extended an invitation from US President Donald Trump for a visit to the White House.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), Rubio informed Modi about the “continuous progress” in various areas, including defense, strategic technology, trade and investment, energy security, connectivity, education, and people-to-people relations between the two countries.
US Ambassador to India, Sergio Gor, mentioned in a post that both sides had a “productive discussion” on deepening India-US cooperation across various sectors during the meeting.
He stated, “It was great to join Secretary Rubio in his meeting with Prime Minister Modi. We had productive discussions on enhancing cooperation in areas such as security, trade, and critical technologies — all of which strengthen both nations and advance a free and open Indo-Pacific region. India remains a significant partner for the US!”
Gor also noted in another post that Secretary Rubio extended an invitation from President Trump for Prime Minister Modi to visit the White House soon.
