Trump Confirms Ongoing Talks with Iran Amid Ceasefire Claims

Washington, June 1: Iranian media has claimed that negotiations regarding a ceasefire with the United States have been halted. In response to these claims, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that discussions with Iran are still ongoing.

President Trump stated on Truth Social, “Negotiations with the Islamic Republic of Iran are progressing rapidly.”

In another social media post, he mentioned, “I had very good conversations with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, and no troops will go to Beirut. Any troops that were on their way have already been sent back. Similarly, I had very good discussions with Hezbollah through high-level representatives, and they agreed that all firing will cease, meaning Israel will not attack them, and they will not attack Israel.”

Iran’s semi-official news agency Tasnim reported on Monday that Tehran’s negotiating team has stopped communication with the U.S. through mediators due to attacks on Lebanon.

The agency further stated that Iran and the Resistance Front, which includes its Shia allies in Yemen, Lebanon, and Iraq, have devised a plan to punish Israel and its supporters by fully blocking the Strait of Hormuz and activating other fronts, including Bab al-Mandeb Strait.

If Iran’s proxy Houthi fighters open a new front in Yemen, a clear target will be the Bab al-Mandeb Strait, a crucial shipping chokepoint that controls maritime traffic towards the Suez Canal.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi commented on Monday regarding Israeli operations in Lebanon, stating, “There is a violation of the ceasefire on all fronts. The U.S. and Israel are responsible for any consequences of these violations.”
