Trump Confirms Ongoing Talks with Iran Amidst Tensions

Washington, June 1: Iranian media has claimed that negotiations regarding a ceasefire with the United States have been halted. In response to these claims, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that talks with Iran are still ongoing.

President Trump stated on Truth Social, “Discussions with the Islamic Republic of Iran are progressing rapidly.”

In another social media post, he mentioned, “I had a very good conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, and no troops will be going to Beirut. Any troops that were en route have already been sent back. Similarly, I have had very good discussions with Hezbollah through high-ranking representatives, and they have agreed that all firing will cease, with Israel not attacking them and they not attacking Israel.”

Iran’s semi-official news agency Tasnim reported on Monday that Tehran’s negotiating team has stopped communication with the U.S. mediator due to attacks on Lebanon.

The agency also stated that Iran and its Resistance Front, which includes its Shia allies in Yemen, Lebanon, and Iraq, have planned to fully block the Strait of Hormuz and activate other fronts, including Bab al-Mandeb Strait, to punish Israel and its supporters.

If Iran’s proxies in Yemen open a new front in the conflict, a clear target will be the Bab al-Mandeb Strait, a crucial shipping chokepoint that controls maritime traffic towards the Suez Canal.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi referred to Israeli operations in Lebanon on Monday, stating, “There is a violation of the ceasefire on all fronts. The U.S. and Israel are responsible for any consequences of these violations.”
