Karnataka CM Distributes Portfolios Among 13 Ministers

Bengaluru, June 4: Karnataka’s newly appointed Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar allocated portfolios to 13 members of his cabinet on Thursday night. The list of department allocations has been sent to Governor Thawarchand Gehlot for official notification.

Chief Minister Shivakumar retained key departments including Finance, Cabinet Affairs, Personnel and Administrative Reforms (DPAR), Intelligence, and other undivided departments.

Yatindra Siddaramaiah, son of former Chief Minister and Congress Working Committee (CWC) member Siddaramaiah, has been appointed as a minister for the first time, taking charge of the much-anticipated Urban Development Department.

Deputy Chief Minister G. Parameshwara has been assigned the Revenue and Sports Department, having previously held the Home Department in the last government.

K.H. Muniyappa has been given the Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs Department, while K.J. George will oversee the Energy and Tourism Departments. M.B. Patil has been allocated the Large and Medium Industries and Infrastructure Department, and Ramalinga Reddy will manage the Water Resources (Major and Medium Irrigation) Department. Satish Jarkiholi has been assigned the Public Works Department (PWD).

Krishna Byregowda will be responsible for the Greater Bengaluru Development Department, which includes the Greater Bengaluru Authority, various municipal corporations, the Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board, and the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation.

Priyank Kharge has been given the Home Department (excluding the Intelligence Branch), as well as the Information Technology and Biotechnology (IT-BT) and E-Governance Departments.

U.T. Khader has been assigned the Health and Family Welfare Department, having previously served as the Assembly Speaker.

Bairathi Suresh will oversee the Transport Department, while Sharan Prakash Patil has been given the Medical Education and Skill Development Department. Ishwar Khandre will manage the Rural Development and Panchayat Raj (RDPR) Department.

The allocation of portfolios has been long awaited following the formation of the new cabinet. The department allocations will officially take effect after receiving the Governor’s approval and notification.
