Bhopal, June 5: On the occasion of World Environment Day, Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, participated in a tree plantation drive at Smart City Park in Bhopal. This initiative is part of Prime Minister Modi‘s “One Tree in the Name of Mother” campaign. Chouhan emphasized that trees are not just about greenery; they are the foundation of life, biodiversity, and the security of our future.
He stated that if the environment is protected, life on Earth will be safe. Tree plantation is not merely about planting a sapling; it is a campaign for the protection of humanity, nature, and future generations. He highlighted that preserving trees ensures the safety of water, forests, land, and biodiversity, which in turn supports rainfall, river conservation, soil preservation, and the continuity of life.
Reflecting on a banyan tree planted in 2021, Chouhan recalled his commitment to daily tree planting since five years ago, starting with that very sapling in Bhopal. Today, it has grown into a magnificent banyan tree, bringing him immense joy as he observed birds and wildlife thriving around it.
Chouhan urged citizens to plant trees, especially on significant life events such as birthdays, anniversaries, and in memory of loved ones. He noted that through the Prime Minister’s campaign, millions across the country are planting trees in honor of their mothers, including himself, who planted one in memory of his late mother, Sundar Devi. He concluded by stating that protecting the environment requires action on the ground, not just speeches and discussions, and reaffirmed his commitment to daily tree planting.
