
New Delhi, May 6: Former cricketer Amanpreet Singh Gill has passed away at the age of 36 in Chandigarh, leaving the domestic cricket community in mourning. Gill was known as a medium pacer and was regarded as a dedicated and humble player in Punjab cricket.
Throughout his career, Gill played six first-class matches representing Punjab and was part of the Kings XI Punjab in the inaugural season of the Indian Premier League. Even after retiring from the sport, he remained involved in cricket, serving as a member of the Punjab senior selection committee.
The Punjab Cricket Association issued an official statement expressing condolences over his demise and reminisced about his long contributions to Punjab cricket. They noted that Gill served the game with “dedication and passion,” representing India Under-19, the Punjab team, and Kings XI Punjab.
The association extended their sympathies to his family and loved ones, praying for strength during this difficult time. Reports indicate that his last rites will be conducted at the Manimajra crematorium in Chandigarh.
Former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh also paid tribute to his former teammate and friend, describing Gill as a “calm and hardworking cricketer” who had a deep love for the game. Yuvraj shared heartfelt memories of sharing a dressing room with Gill early in his career and expressed condolences to his family while praying for Gill’s soul to rest in peace.
