
New Delhi, May 23: In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, the Customs Department at Indira Gandhi International Airport has apprehended two travelers from Thailand carrying narcotics valued at approximately ₹48 crores. The suspects were intercepted after arriving on flight AI-2356 from Bangkok, following specific profiling inputs and suspicious travel behavior.
During the inspection, customs officials discovered six vacuum-sealed packets suspected to contain hydroponic cannabis. Four packets weighing around 29 kilograms were found in one traveler’s luggage, while two packets weighing about 19 kilograms were recovered from the other. The total weight of the seized narcotics amounts to approximately 47.805 kilograms, marking one of the largest seizures at the airport in recent times. The investigation is ongoing.
In a related operation in Maharashtra, police conducted a combing operation in the Dombivli area, resulting in the detention of 24 Nigerian nationals, including women and minors. The operation involved over 150 police personnel and aimed to curb the rising drug trafficking activities in the region. Among those detained, eight individuals lacked valid documents for residing in India, and several others face charges under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
The authorities are intensifying efforts to combat drug-related crimes across the country.
