Chandigarh, May 7: On the first anniversary of Operation Sindoor, former Director General of Police (DGP) Sanjeev Kalra emphasized the importance of national security preparedness, evolving warfare techniques, and public involvement. He expressed pride in the operation’s success, attributing it to collective readiness, coordination, and awareness across the country.
Kalra noted that he witnessed firsthand how various departments collaborated in this initiative. Different agencies and security forces were alerted, trained, and worked in coordination. He stated that the achievement was not just of the security agencies but a result of the entire system’s unity and readiness. As a patriot, he confidently declared that “Operation Sindoor” was extremely successful.
However, he cautioned that security challenges are perpetual, and preparedness can never be deemed complete. In the modern era, technology is rapidly evolving, and the nature of warfare is continually changing. He highlighted that for the first time, large-scale drone technology was utilized during Operation Sindoor, necessitating new forms of preparation for security agencies. Future advancements may include long-range missiles and advanced aerial systems, making it crucial to continually update security measures.
Kalra also shared personal memories, recalling his childhood in Ferozepur during the 1971 India-Pakistan war, where the sounds of sirens and scenes of people being alerted remain vivid in his memory. He pointed out that residents in border areas have closely witnessed war and tension, leading to a natural vigilance regarding security.
He stressed the increasing importance of public participation in today’s context. Modern warfare is not fought solely at the military or police level; awareness and cooperation from ordinary citizens are essential. The rising use of drones and aerial technology has complicated security arrangements, making it necessary for people to remain alert and report any suspicious activities to the authorities promptly.
Responding to recent explosions in Jalandhar and Amritsar, Kalra remarked that Punjab, being a border state, is always sensitive due to its geographical location. He asserted that threats from neighboring countries will persist, and Punjab must remain vigilant. He expressed confidence that the Punjab Police is committed to facing every challenge with full capacity and professionalism.
